With the PhoneminderTM WiFi solution, you don’t need an app, it uses the cars power and you don’t have to remember to turn on the bluetooth.

WiFi and WLAN Defined
Essentially, WiFi or WLAN networks uses a wireless (radio wave) connection to exchange information between devices within a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, campus, office building etc., or in the case of Phoneminder™ your car.
WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) refers to any local area network (LAN) that a mobile user can connect to through, no matter what technology is used.
WiFi (short for “wireless fidelity”) is a type of WLAN that follows the IEEE 802.11 wireless protocol standards which most WLANs in use today do, that’s why they are commonly used interchangeably. WiFi as a name for the standard is a trademark of the WiFi Alliance.
Phoneminder™ generates a WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) that prioritizes and searches for your phone’s WiFi signal.

WiFi vs Bluetooth
Bluetooth is primarily used to connect two, close range devices to each other in a personal area network (PAN).
Wi-Fi is most commonly used to connect one or more devices in a network. This communication network allows the devices to share information back and forth just like a wired local area network (LAN). Most mobile devices have this WiFi network built into the software, and it is possible to create a Wi-Fi network without any Internet connection involved. In that type of situation, the individual devices can share data with each other, but they wouldn’t access the internet.
Key Differences Between Bluetooth and Wifi
- In order to get more reliable data connections users often choose to connect to a local area network and out through the local area network, rather than using less reliable and potentially lower bandwidth of a Bluetooth cellular connection.
- For connection establishment, through Bluetooth, a device would require Bluetooth adapter. Wifi devices use the built in network settings on the device. Nothing extra to download and activate.
- In terms of flexibility, Bluetooth supports a limited set of users. WiFi provides support for a large number of users.
- Bluetooth signal range is 10 meters WiFi is 100 meters.
- Frequency range along which Bluetooth devices are supported is 2.4 GHz and 2.483 GHz. Wifi frequency range is 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
- Bluetooth is less secure as compared to Wifi and uses encryption and authentication keys. In contrast, Wifi has better security, using WEP (Wired Equivalency Privacy) and WPA (Wifi Protected Access).
Bluetooth is considered a short distance wireless communication while Wifi provides more privileges and long range, large number of users and cost effective way to connect to technology.
